paste (someone)

paste (someone)
vb
British
to hit, beat up, 'thrash' or defeat some-one. This use of the word paste, perhaps inspired by the slapping of paste on walls, posters, etc., or from 'baste' or 'lambaste', arose in the 19th century and was popular in colloquial speech until the late 1950s. 'Paste one on (someone)' was then an alternative version; 'give someone a (good) pasting' survives.

Contemporary slang . 2014.
